Locally led. Community rooted. Systems focused.
Wandikweza is a locally led Malawian nonprofit health organization working to end preventable maternal, newborn, child and adolescent deaths among families living in extreme poverty.
Founded in 2016 by a Malawian nurse and rooted in rural communities, Wandikweza exists to close the last-mile gap between households and the health system, ensuring no one is left behind because of distance, cost or lack of awareness.

We advance universal health coverage by delivering equitable, high-quality primary health care through our Proactive Doorstep Care (PDC) model, in close partnership with public health facilities and district health authorities. Our approach brings preventive, promotive and referral services directly to households in hard-to-reach communities while reinforcing, rather than replacing, the public health system.

A Last-Mile Health Systems Builder
Wandikweza is not a stand-alone service provider. We are a last-mile health systems builder.
Our work strengthens how the health system functions at the point where it most often fails: the household. We design, deliver and scale models that move preventive and routine care into communities, while ensuring timely referral to public facilities for specialized and emergency services.
This systems approach allows health facilities to focus on what they do best, skilled deliveries, emergency obstetric and newborn care and complex cases, while communities receive early, continuous support.
How We Work
Wandikweza works by building deep community trust, strengthening public-sector partnerships and delivering care through evidence-driven systems. We collaborate closely with District Health Offices, public health facilities, community leaders and families to ensure services are accessible, culturally appropriate and embedded within existing health structures.

Our approach is grounded in partnership. We align with government priorities and working through trusted community actors to strengthen the health system from the last mile upward.

We recognize that one size does not fit all. Our model adapts to local realities, geography, population density, health system capacity and climate risk, while maintaining consistent standards of quality, accountability and dignity in care. This balance of adaptability allows us to deliver effective services today and scale responsibly for the future.

Meet the Management Team
Wandikweza’s management team brings together experienced health professionals, community leaders and systems thinkers who are deeply committed to improving maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health in Malawi. Guided by a shared mission to transform access to maternal and child health, our leadership combines local knowledge with technical expertise to deliver high-quality, community-driven care.

As stewards of Wandikweza’s vision, the management team is responsible for translating strategy into action, overseeing program delivery, strengthening partnerships, ensuring accountability and supporting the frontline teams who serve families every day. United by purpose and grounded in community trust, our leaders work to ensure Wandikweza remains responsive, effective, and focused on those most often left behind.
