We can not end preventable deaths alone
With thousands of women, newborns, children and adolescents in Malawi still dying from preventable causes, there is an urgent need to scale community-based health solutions that work, especially for families living in extreme poverty and far from health facilities.

Wandikweza’s Proactive Doorstep Care model is a cost-effective, evidence-informed approach that has been developed and refined in rural Malawi to close the last-mile gap between households and the health system. We bring preventive, promotive and referral services directly to families’ doorsteps, while working in close partnership with public health facilities. Our model improves early detection, continuity of care and timely referral across the maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health continuum.

A Seven-District Pathway to Universal Health Coverage
Having been refined and demonstrated in rural settings, Wandikweza is now focused on scaling Proactive Doorstep Care to seven districts across Malawi by 2030, in alignment with national health priorities. Through close collaboration with government, public health facilities, local and international partners, we are expanding and adapting the model to reach more hard-to-reach communities, strengthen community health delivery at scale and generate implementation learning to inform policy and practice.

How we collaborate
Wandikweza collaborates through shared leadership, system alignment and community trust, working alongside partners to strengthen health delivery rather than operate in parallel.

With Government and Public Health Systems
We work closely with District Health Offices and public health facilities to align Proactive Doorstep Care with national and district health priorities. Our frontline teams complement government services, strengthen referral pathways, and support continuity of care, ensuring our work reinforces the public system and contributes to universal health coverage.
With Communities
Community leaders, families and frontline health workers are active partners in our work. We co-design services based on local realities, build trust through consistent presence and adapt delivery to meet the needs of the most underserved households.

With Impact and Implementing Partners
We collaborate with aligned partners to scale impact, share implementation learning and adapt our model across contexts. Partnerships are built on transparency, mutual accountability and a commitment to evidence-informed delivery.
With Research and Technical Partners
We engage research institutions and technical experts to strengthen monitoring, evaluation and learning, using data to refine delivery, demonstrate impact and inform policy and practice.
